Community Thanksgiving Service

Farmville Enterprise November 15, 2017

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100)

On Sunday night, November 19 at 7:00 there will be a community Thanksgiving service at Mt. Moriah Community Church. Reverend Cheryl Patterson will be speaking and a love offering will be taken to benefit students of our Farmville public schools. One of the highlights of the evening will be joyful music by the Farmville Community Church Choir. For those who enjoy singing and would like to be a part of the choir that evening, please attend a one-hour rehearsal at 10:00 on Saturday morning, November 18 at Mt. Moriah.

When Christians from different church backgrounds gather together for worship it is especially meaningful. Our faith in Jesus Christ provides a bond that is far greater than any differences that might threaten to pull us apart. There is power in us living out our unity as believers. The body of Christ is stronger when we recognize and enjoy the gifts of its many parts.

Part of this year’s Thanksgiving service will be praying for the families and friends of the First Baptist Church shooting victims and for their community. We can only imagine how devastated the small town of Sutherland Springs, Texas must be after the tragic deaths of 26 people and wonder how in the world someone could walk into a place of worship to murder people. May God pour out his Spirit and send healing to this land. We will gather in Farmville with thanksgiving as well as with heavy hearts, knowing that God hears us and cares. As Romans 12:15 says, let us “rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
